Description: An account of the founding and development of Wellington settlement based on extracts from the town's first newspapers and their owners linked by activities of William Edward Vincent, printer, who arrived in Wellington by Slains Castle, Jan 1841, and was employed by S Revans, who published the 'NZ Gazette' and its successors; Vincent ran the Te Aro Hotel in 1850, joined 'The Wellington Independent' and left the colony for NSW in 1853 Also included are photostats from the Gisborne Herald centenary edition with information about the Muir family.
