Urquhart, Harry R, 1879-1963

Pacifist and conscientious objector. Was a member of the Christian Pacifist Society, was active in the Associated Churches of Christ and was a contemporary of Rev Ormond Burton. Imprisoned for his beliefs during World War I and wrote several anti-war pamphlets. Graduated from the University of Otago with a BA (1909) and MA (1910).

Posters are titled: Archibald Baxter Unions Harry Urquhart Te Puea Herangi Donors statement: "The posters were produced for Anzac Day 2015, to encourage New Zealanders to critically reflect on New Zealand's role in World War One at a time when the traditional narrative of sacrifice in the name of freedom and democracy was dominating the political, social and media discourse".
