Griffin, Sally Ann D, 1951-

Artist and activist; born in Melbourne, Australia; arrived in Auckland, NZ in 1973. She believes the essence of art is `to move people' and `communicate ideas' and she works with the assumption that these ideas must be rooted in class struggle to keep the process to a dynamic rather than a stagnant form. She describes herself as a `Socialist Symbolist'. Her mural `Birth of our power' is at the Auckland Trade Union Centre (1983). She began painting public murals in 1980.
