Description: Cadastral map of subdivisions, some numbered, in sections 312, 313 and 314 on the corner of Brougham and Elizabeth streets, intersected by Moncrief Street. Includes acreages and boundary measurements. Sections 313 and 314 include C.T. numbers and are part of D.P. 240. Names include W. Hodson, F. & C.S. Cording, P.Chetwood Watt, E. S. Quinlan, Education Board which is currently the site of Clyde Quay School. The plan for alterations, for Mr. L. Quinlan, (builder) for a residence at 32 Brougham Street includes faint outlines of the original building. Specifications are not included on the plan but a pencilled note gives measurements in square feet. Other Titles - Alterations to residence - 32 Brougham Street - for Mr. L. Discusses working in the Public Trust Office and doing accounting exams while saving to go to the School of Architecture. Recalls his architectural study between 1939 and 1943. Comments on the small number of architectural students in 1939. Discusses their lecturers, particularly Vernon Brown, and students including his future wife Mary Hay. Recalls applying for a job with Christchurch architect Colin Lamb and his work on the Ovaltine factory. Discusses the process of architectural registration and the fee scale as bound by the New Zealand Institute of Architecture. Describes beginning work in Hamilton with Edgecumbe, White and Leigh. Mentions some of the firm's name changes and its split when it became Leigh, de Lisle and Fraser. Description: Houses, house interiors, and furniture. Many of these may be views of Einhorn's own house. Phtographs of individual items of furniture include two coffee tables, one with a tiled top, and one with a top of green marble. Another piece of furniture is a desk-bookcase-storage unit designed by Einhorn in Germany in 1936. There are also photographs of a garden that may also be Einhorn's own. Photographs of modern houses include the "Lipson bach" photographed in 1984 as well as a number of other unidentified houses, and sometimes, their gardens. One photograph shows Einhorn at work setting up an exhibition of models of new Government office buildings, ca 1960s. About a quarter of the album is filled with photocopies of drawings for architectural projects designed by Einhorn in Germany in about 1936. One dated 1936 is a plan for a section of public housing including a drawing of a proposed house. This is very like the state housing projects in New Zealand. Other images include views of houses in Thorndon, and what are probably student work be Einhorn. Three are shaded pencil drawings of views of buildings, and one is a decorative rosette modled in clay, 1930s. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).
