New Zealand. Department of Internal Affairs. Wildlife Branch, New Zealand. Wildlife Division

Wildlife Branch of Internal Affairs was established about August 1945. It was renamed Wildlife Division in December 1951. It was downgraded back to Wildlife Branch with the loss of the deer control section on 1 April 1956. It began referring to itself (even on publications) as the Wildlife Service by 1973 and this became official in 1974. On 1st April 1987, the Wildlife Service was disestablished and most of its functions taken over by the new Department of Conservation.
