Description: A card, on which is written words of resolve, to do one's best, to be honest, kind, fair-minded, helpful, clean hard-working; to take the gift of freedom and "carry on" in place of our honoured dead, etc. The verso shows the lyrics and musical notation for the "Hour chimes of the Ashburton Post Office Clock". The chimes were arranged by Dr Crotch in 1780 for an air of Handel's and are known as "The Cambrdige Chimes". The words are by the Rev Dr Taylor, London" Ashburton's chiming clock was installed in 1904. The card states that Dr Taylor wrote the words. Online sources say that they are derived from Great St Mary's and are an allusion to Psalm 37. They are: "All through this hour/ Lord be my guide/ And by Thy power/ No foot shall slide".
