Description: Tourists on a holiday cruise on SS Rotorua to the Southern West Coast and Fiordland in 1897. Places include Milford Sound, George Sound, and Preservation Inlet. Most of the rest of the album relates to Piha. There are also photographs of a group of men on a hike, men fishing, the loaded Thames-Te Aroha coach, the "Tabernacle" football team of 1898, men on a hunting trip grouped outside a slab hut, and men playing with a friendly horse. Description: Shows the paddle steamer Luna in a bay in Milford Sound, with a hanging valley in the background. The snow-capped mountain beyond the hanging valley formed by Harrison's Cove, is Mount Pembroke. Michael Fitzgerald of the National Museum (later Te Papa) identified the paddle steamer as the Luna, on which Heaphy went to Milford Sound in 1874.
