Description: Swainson wrote `I intend to give you a regular account of all my proceedings, since I left New Zealand...' and goes on to describe his `romantic wanderings' in these 11 letters written to his sister, Mary, except for the last, to Johnnie. He writes of his voyages to England, describing visiting Valparaiso, the island of La Garta where they collected guano, and spending time in England. He writes also from Sydney and Rio de Janeiro, on the `Havannah', Devonport, the Baltic and Hong Kong in each case describing details of the voyage, his work, and family concerns.
