Description

Unbound manuscript with a handmade cardboard cover entitled 'History of the Tamaki Maori (sic) and early European, by L.G. Brickell 1940'. Includes handwritten and typescript pages, illustrated with maps and drawings, and images from other sources. Includes an index, foreword, and the pages are numbered; the final page is numbered 219. Completed when Brickell was a student at Auckland Teacher's College during 1939-1940.

Provides a history of the Auckland Isthmus between circa 900 and 1890. Includes descriptions of waka migrations; Māori placenames associated with the Auckland Isthmus; stories related to iwi settlement and migration over time within the region and later, the development of European suburbs across Auckland.
