- Description
Compendium of acoustic audio recordings, mostly created by John Cousins and subsequently excerpted and transformed in various ways using computer software. These recordings have been used as primary sources for John's works. The recordings were originally arranged into a folder structure. For the most part, the titles of the folders, subfolders and files themselves give basic information about the content and context of the audio. In addition to .aiff and .wav files, the material also includes .sd2 files, produced in cases where John was using the software applications Alchemy or Soundmaker to transform his recordings. The digital transformations included filtering, pitch transpositions, and cross-synthesis. Often the transformations are indicated using abbreviations in the file names - a partial list of these abbreviations and their definitions was provided by the donor: see MSDL-5291.
