Description

Taken by an unidentified photographer. Shows long rows of Maori men, possibly in preparation for a haka or powhiri. Most are dressed in a kakahu cloak, these include korowai and korokiwi, and many men appear to be holding weapons. Single storey wooden buildings can be seen in the background and a range of hills in the distance. Partially obscured white writing in the bottom left-hand corner of the print reads " Government Department". Annotation on verso reads "Cowan Collection".
