- Description
A three-quarters head-and-shoulders portrait of Matiu ('Matthew') te Pouhu. He wears his hair short, and sports a full facial moko. He wears a cloak, possibly of green flax. Hutton writes: 'Matthew te Tauhu - an old priest of former times but now a native teacher. A queer old fellow - he was reckoned one of the most clever of his profession, and since his conversion has been of very great service among his countrymen.'
