Scenes at Avondale, in February 1981. All images taken at the racecourse grandstand and on a stage, most being close-up views of men and women. A young man is wearing a korowai (cloak), a bone matau (fish hook shaped pendant), and a painted moko design (representation of a facial tattoo), standing in front of a grandstand filled with people (frames 1 to 4); an older man, also wearing a korowai and painted moko (frame 5); two women wearing headscarves and carrying kete (woven flax baskets) (frame 6); close-up views of people in the grandstand (frames 7 to 10 & 12); and a view over a crowd of people with a group of women in costume performing a waiata ā ringa (action song) on a stage (frame 11). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
