- Description
All frames taken beside the Manawatu River near Palmerston North, with the Anzac Cliffs on the far side. Frame one shows a man standing on a raft on the beach. He is wearing a hat, with shorts and shoes and socks, and is pointing at something across the river. Frames 2 to 4 show a raft, home-made with the upper made of flax and a fringed flax "sail," being pulled towards the beach, with a group of small boys wading towards it. Spectators are seen in frames 7 to 9 and 11 to 12. There is a young Māori couple (frames 8, 9, 11 and 12), he with long flowing hair holding a camera, and she wearing a crop-top and trousers. All taken during a fun day of raft races. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
