Photographs relating to Lord and Lady Bledisloe, and staff at Government House, circa 1934-1935, taken by mostly unknown photographers.

Also a memorial card relating to the 'Great Lafayette' who lost his life in a fire at the Empire Palace Theatre, Edinburgh in 1911, and a photograph of Lady Bledisloe taken by Lafayette, circa 1910.

Portraits of Lord and Lady Bledisloe are signed by them. The group portrait including the Bledisloes, and staff of Government House, includes James Alexander Mitchell (top row, first from right), and [his then future sister-in-law] Mary Mitchell, née Smith (top row, fourth from right).

The identification of the Mitchells in the group portrait was given to the library by the donor.

The collection was created by Doug Mitchell's father, James Alexander Mitchell, who along with his sister-in-law Mary Mitchell, worked for the Bledisloes at Government House circa 1934.
