Description

Collection of photographic prints, programmes, posters, and newspaper reviews mounted on album leaves.

Includes photographs and ephemera relating to Canterbury University Drama Society and Christchurch Repertory Society, also includes concert and Summer School programmes, from the period 1945 to 1948. Includes notes on loose inserted interleaving provided by Patience Kearns.

Features material relating to the following productions:

'The Chronicle of King Henry V', by William Shakespeare (The Little Theatre, 8, 10 and 11 December 1945). Canterbury University College Drama Society. Produced by Ngaio Marsh; includes trumpet flourishes by Douglas Lilburn.

'What say they?', by James Bridie (Little Theatre, 30 and 31 March 1946). Canterbury University College Drama Society. Produced by Marie Donaldson and John Pocock.

'The Tragedy of Macbeth' by William Shakespeare (Radiant Theatre, 20-27 July 1946). The Canterbury University College Drama Society. Produced by Ngaio Marsh. Also New Zealand Tour 1947.

'Othello' by William Shakespeare (Conservatorium Hall, 15 January [1949]); and 'Six Characters in Search of an Author' by Luigi Pirandello - The Canterbury Student Players - Tour of Australia 1949.

Concert programme - Tour of Australia and New Zealand 1947 of the Boyd Neel Orchestra, conducted by Boyd Neel. Performance at Canterbury University College Music Department on 11 July 1947. Other programmes of concerts by Lili Kraus and Robert Pikler, performing Beethoven's 10 sonatas for violin and piano (Canterbury University College Music Department, 28, 29 and 30 July 1947; and as a trio with Lois Simpson, Civic Theatre, 1 August 1947.

Also includes sketch of Little Theatre during rehearsal for 'Macbeth' and a textile and paper figure showing costume design from 'Macbeth'.

Some of the theatre programmes are signed/autographed by members of the cast and Ngaio Marsh as producer.

Newspaper clippings feature reviews of productions, including one published in 'Canta - The official Organ of the Students' Association Canterbury University College' dated 8 August 1946.

Photographs of leisure times during summer school include Maria Dronke, Ngaio Marsh, Sam Williams, and Karl Stead.
