Description

Photograph album of images some relating to World War I. Images taken 1917 and circa 1917. Photographer(s), and compiler of album, are unidentified.

- Contains images of Naval ships, and troops and nurses on board ships, in both uniform and civillian clothes. Shows shipboard life and recreation activitites including jump rope (skipping), bottle races, and reading. In many of the pictures people wear or carry life jackets.

- Images of Miraflores Locks in Panama Canal (one dated 4 Nov 1917).

- Images of Newport News in Virgina, United States, and one identified as being taken [while travelling] between Panama and Newport News.

- Portraits of buildings.

- Images at a hospital including one that is labelled "hospital pets", also includes images of uniformed nurses with bunny rabbits, donkeys, and cats.

- Some people are identified, there are two images of "the late Mr L[en?] Reay". He is described as [being from] "Ramsay's fleet". Also includes many images of unidentified children.

- Some images have captions on the back, in at least two different hands. Several of the images are labelled "Hitchcock".
