Description

Folder contains three items: Photograph of Sir Fiennes Colville, taken by W&D Downey of London; a photocopy of the same; photocopy of a studio portrait taken when Sir Fiennes was a younger man.

The photograph by W&D Downey is of the head and upper torso of Sir Fiennes. He is bearded and wearing a uniform with three medals.

In the photocopy of the studio portrait (by an unidentified photographer) Sir Fiennes' right sleeve is attached to a button on the front of his jacket, showing that his arm has been amputated below the elbow. His left arm rests on a podium beside his regimental cap and a handle, possibly that of a riding crop. Reverse of the photocopy has identification marks of Puke Ariki, Taranaki Museum.

Sir Fiennes Colville was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath. As a Captain in the 43rd Foot Regiment he received the Indian Mutiny and the New Zealand medals.
