Description: Shows two 'anti-crime wagons' racing up Hill Street in Wellington. One belongs to National, the other to Labour. David Lange, Geoffrey Palmer and Ann Hercus can be seen shooting pistols from the Labour wagon, Jim Bolger and Jim McLay are shooting from the National car. A man walking through Parliament grounds runs off, trying to dodge the politicians' bullets. Description: Shows a parody of the Biblical story 'The jugdment of Solomon', in which David Lange, dressed as King Solomon, has an axe raised over his head and is about to strike a baby labelled 'Family benefit', lying on a box labelled 'Ballot box'. Roger Douglas and Geoffrey Palmer stand as guards either side of him. On the floor are two women, one of whom is knitting and labelled 'Hercus', the other labelled 'Mum', who cries out for Lange not to strike her baby. Refers to Ann Hercus, then recently-appointed Minister of Social Welfare, calling for a full review of the Children's and Young Persons legislation. Refers in part to early reports on toxic shock syndrome (TSS), a potentially fatal illness caused by a bacterial toxin. In the late 1970s, TSS was thought to be connected to tampon use. The reference to the Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand and its concern for balance is not clear.
