Interviews with five Māori police officers who talk about their family background, employment before recruitment, and training at Trentham Police College after joining up. They discuss their career paths, promotions and further study, as well as specialisation such as dog handling, field supervision, traffic policing, and youth aid. The subjects raise aspects of criminal offending encountered during their police careers. Other subjects mentioned include the relationship of Māori police officers with Māori communities, working with female police officers, the change from beat and suburban policing to centralised and mobile policing, domestic violence, racism in the police force. The interviewees also talk about careers after leaving New Zealand Police and their community involvement following retirement.
The interviewees are: John Sydney Moran, Rana Donald Waitai, Robert Kinsella (Kim) Workman, Gordon Aropata Rongonui and Aporo Julian Joyce.
