An oral history interview with Peter Cloake, born in Wellington on the 12th of January, 1935. Talks about parents and recalls his earliest recollections of wartime Wellington. Talks about starting Kelburn School before moving to Palmerston North in 1942 - mentions attending Hokowhitu Primary School, College Street School and Palmerston Boys High School. Discusses his father serving in World War II - mentions Casino and Norfolk Island. Mentions the Tangiwhai rail disaster. Mentions doing his Compulsory Militray Training at Linton and at Waiouru - details the training.
Recalls starting work at Dalgety's in Feilding in 1953 - describes his work and details his involvement in the Feilding sale yards. Explains the workings of the auctions. Discusses his day-to-day work as a stock agent - details his contact with the drovers and dealers. Discusses a typical day at the sale yards. Explains the logistics of moving stock - mentions Ian Johnston. Talks about the introduction of rostrum selling - mentions the changes made to the sale yards.
