Comprise five legal documents and contracts relating to the Petre family, a branch of which settled in New Zealand. They include a marriage contract, land instruments relating to the Petre family estates in Essex, William Bernard Petre's will and codicil, and papers from the Principal Registry of the British High Court of Justice relating to the personal estate of William Joseph Baron Petre. All documents apart from the will have been registered with the High Court of New Zealand.

Henry William Petre was the younger son of William Baron Petre, chairman of the New Zealand Company and the younger brother of William Bernard Petre. By his first marriage in 1842 to Mary Ann Eleanore Walmsley he had seven sons and nine daughters and it is from this issue that the Petre family in New Zealand descend.

Provenance: Dr John Bradbury, a Wellington General Practitioner, settled with his family in Perth, Western Australia. His son, Michael, a collector of historic items, passed them to the donor. Where he obtained them is unknown, but they may have been from a former solicitor's office.
