Description

Three display boards with montages of photographic prints showing people and scenes in the Wellington region, taken circa 1930s-circa 1940s. Some images are identified. Photographers are unidentified, except for one taken by S P Andrew Ltd.

The boards may have been created by the Evening Post newspaper.

Description: Display board with montages of photographic prints on both sides. Images show people and scenes taken circa 1930s-circa 1940s, mainly in the Wellington city area, but also in the wider Wellington region. The board may have been created by the Evening Post. One side shows scenes at listed locations: - Lake in the Botanical Gardens - Picnic place at Moonshine - Rock garden in Riddiford Park, Lower Hutt - Waiwhetu Stream, Lower Hutt - Oriental Bay Parade - Entrance to Khandallah Domain - Oriental Bay beach - Riddiford Park, Lower Hutt - Botanical Gardens and city from Northland heights - Houses of Parliament - Upper reaches of the Hutt River - Days Bay beach - Spring flowers in the Botanical Gardens Other side shows crowded city street scenes with people, cars and trams. Also many close-ups of women and children pedestrians. Exact locations not listed but all appear to be in Wellington city. Willis Street and James Smith's Corner are included. Quantity: 1 display board, with 21 b&w original prints on one side, and 13 b&w original prints on the other. Physical Description: Mount, 68.4 cm x 50.9 cm, with photographic prints attached. Prints vary in size.

Description: Display board with montages of photographic prints on one side. Images show horse races and race goers, possibly at Trentham Racecourse in Upper Hutt, taken circa 1930s-circa 1940s. The board may have been created by the Evening Post. The images include horses racing close to the finish line, and groups of men and women in formal clothing, including hats. Description: Display board with montages of photographic prints on one side. Images comprise portraits, events, places and a ship (possibly the 'Strathhaven') taken circa 1930s-circa 1940s. The board may have been created by the Evening Post. Most images unidentified. Some images identified by archivist: - Lord Bledisloe at a ceremony - Group portrait with Lord and Lady Bledisloe taken by S P Andrew Ltd - Archbishop Redwood during a ceremony - Jean Batten - Pilots Ray Whitehead and Rex Nicholl in the aeroplane they flew to cross the Tasman - Ceremony on the steps of the Dominion Museum (still under construction) - Wellington College buildings and grounds - Wellington Town Hall exterior Quantity: 1 display board, with 25 b&w original prints on one side.
