An unusual view of the Pink Terraces, looking out to Lake Rotomahana. Painted four years after the eruption of Mount Tarawera, it may have been painted from an earlier sketch done before 1886; Blomfield did this with other views of the Pink and White Terraces. In the foreground, the pinkish ground is dotted with fissures in the earth and fumaroles, and the land is densely populated with trees and bush
