Under the caption 'Once upon a time, the treasured Learning Media was closed down by two little pigs. [End of story]', the Minister of Finance, Bill English, explains that 'It was a dog [snort]. No profits, nothing. Just books and crap for bloody kids.' The Minister of Education, Hekia Parata agrees 'Yeah!'
Accompanying note from the cartoonist states "The loss of Learning Media is a real blow to New Zealand education. It all comes down to money [now], it seems. And the Minister of Education barely opens her mouth. Cartoon depicts Minister of Finance Bill English, and Minister of Education Hekia Parata."
On 4 September 2013, the Board of Learning Media announced, following advice from the Ministry of Education and Cabinet, that the enterprise, whose best known publication was the New Zealand School Journal, was non-viable and would be wound up.
