- Description
Cartoon shows Maurice Williamson, Minister for Building and Construction, standing near a fault line, which is rupturing beneath him. He says, "Don't worry folks, there's plenty of time to get this city earthquake proof!" Text at the top reads, Wellington, with cracks through each of the letters of the word. Refers to the Lake Grassmere Earthquake, the second of the Cook Strait earthquakes, which hit Wellington on Friday 16 August, resulting in damage across the upper South Island, and in Wellington. The earthquake measured 6.6, and was 8km deep, 3km shallower than the July Seddon earthquake. (Stuff.co.nz, 16 August 2013)
