Description

A public dinner in the Winter Show buildings, Wellinton. This event was a Wells System money raising promotion probably for the parish of St George's, Seatoun. In one photograph Mr E M (Everard Maunsell ?) Stace is speaking, and in the other the speaker is the vicar Jack Rushworth.

The Wells System was developed in the United States as a way of raising money. It was applied in the Anglican and other churches in New Zealand in the 1950s, in particular as the means for establishing the idea of planned giving to support the church, or to raise money for projects such as new church buildings or parish halls.
