Accompanying note from cartoonist states: "At a time when million-dollar paypackets for executives are nothing unusual, it seems a tad unfair - ageist? - to screw down the wages of young workers." Refers to a controversial new youth or Starting Out wage, introduced on 1 March, which is intended to lower the country's high youth unemployment rate. The wage will allow people aged 16 to 19 to be paid 80 per cent of the adult minimum wage for the first six months of their employment. It begins on 1 May 2013.
