Description

Copy negative taken by Christchurch photographer Adam Henry Pearson Maclay of an original photographic print pinned to a board (edges of print visible). View shows steamships on the Wellington patent slip and nearby houses on the road around Evans Bay, Wellington. The steamships are the Anchor Company coaster ship 'Regulus' (in foreground with white funnel) and the Union Steamship Company collier ship 'Komata' in background on the longer slipway. Photographer of original is unidentified, but likely to be an Evening Post staff member.

This image is the left part of a larger photograph published in the Evening Post on 29 April 1933 on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the Wellington patent slip. The larger photograph shows two ships tied to the Wellington patent slip wharf. These are likely to be the 'Mararoa' and the 'Maheno'. All these vessels were present at the Wellington patent slip on 7 December 1928 (see Evening Post Shipping News 7 December 1928).
