Description

Poster advertising Dunlop tyres, particularly the New Zealand-British venture announced around 1945, shows Mt Taranaki with the bridge of the New Plymouth Recreation Ground in the foreground. This scene is reflected in the hubcap of a Dunlop Fort tyre, the right front tyre on a red car with a gleaming bumper whose end is visible. The New Zealand and British flags are shown at lower left.

From the Evening post, 31 August 1945, Page 6: "Referring to the proposed development of the tyre industry in New Zealand, Mr. Philip Proctor, overseas sales manager of the Dunlop Rubber Company, said the English company welcomed the opportunity to enable British experience to combine with New Zealand skill and-energy. The project would necessitate the importation of expensive plant and machinery of British manufacture. Considerable outlay would be needed in land and buildings, and for certain types of plant to be ordered in New Zealand".
