- Description
Photograph of a watercolour depicting a two-storied residence, probably made of stone, in a garden setting. A woman (or a girl) is seated in the centre foreground, a small girl standing at her side
Note that the artist, Edmund Thomas, born 1827, could not have painted this view in 1817. He arrived in Melbourne in 1852, working there and in Sydney from 1854 until his death in 1867. He may have painted the house around 1860 because of its interest as the former vicarage of Marsden
The Mitchell Library, Sydney, also has a photographic copy of this painting, GPO-1-23829, a copy negative from the Government Printing Office, copied 1909. Their title is Samuel Marsden's parsonage at St John's Parrarmatta, 1817
