View of rolling seas landing on a beach, with European dwellings surrounded by fenced gardens, cleared bush behind and hills.
Exhibited in 'Picturing Paradise; the colonial watercolours of William Fox', Exhibition at National Library Gallery 25 February - 18 June 2000; Hocken Library, Dunedin, 11 September - 15 October 2000. Curated by Jill Trevelyan.
Exhibited in 'Treasures in Trust' exhibition to celebrate 75th anniversary of the Alexander Turnbull Library in 1995.
On the recto of the painting, at the top, is "No. 270" with part of the New Zealand Company stamp, probably originally with the same date as drawing no. 271. The title on the work is a later addition and is probably a transcription of the original title supplied by the artist to the New Zealand Company.
