Briscoe & Co. Ltd :The Marseilles roofing tile [ca 1907].

Date: 1906 - 1908

From: [Ephemera of octavo size relating to building material and supplies in New Zealand]

Reference: Eph-A-BUILDING-SUPPLIES-1907-01-57

Description: Shows a finished roof, the method of fixing or attaching each tile, and close studies of the upper and under sides of a tile, and a ridge tile. Note from Mr G Mew (October 2000): Marseilles tiles are thought to have been used in a Dunedin house in 1898. The "New Zealand tablet" for about June 1898 has an advertisement for Marseilles tiles, and the name of the company associated with them was Thompson & Bridger (a large Dunedin timber and hardware company). However, it seems that Briscoes very quickly became the sole agent after that. Extended Title - From Briscoe & Co. "Beautiful homes and public buildings in New Zealand" Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s) on page of catalogue.. Physical Description: Photolithograph, on page 185 x 250 mm.
