The letters were written from Kaiwharawhara Military Hospital (Wellington), before leaving New Zealand, on the high seas while serving as an orderly aboard troop and hospital ships, from Moascar Camp in Egypt, briefly from Europe at the end of 1915 and from Salonika (Greece) in early 1916 where he served with No 1 New Zealand Stationary Hospital
