Description

An illustration to a four-verse poem about exile in New Zealand during the New Zealand wars and the joys of the artist's and poet's own fireside. He depicts himself seated in uniform asleep in front of a blazing log fire, in a raupo whare, presumably on military duty in New Zealand, dreaming of his English fireside. Carbery was a surgeon with the British forces in New Zealand in 1863 to 1865.
