Shows six school children at right foreground, waiting to cross country road, after New Zealand Education Department school bus exits stage left.
Ernest Mervyn Taylor was art editor and illustrator for the School Publications Branch of the Department of Education from 1944 to 1946. The annual report of the Transport Department for 1947 (Appendices to the journals of the House of Representatives 1947, H40) states that "in order to help to impress the smaller children of the primary schools with the need for care in crossing the road, appropriate posters [some] depicting animals were distributed to the schools and used as a basis of instruction by the teachers".
