A large scale model of the World War I Messines Ridge sector, Belgium, showing trenches, topography and so on. Built outdoors at a New Zealand Division military camp for training purposes. Shows camp buildings in the background. Location is Brocton, near Stafford, England. Photograph taken probably 1918 by Thomas Frederick Scales.
Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom left - UK52
The scale model, which was created around May 1918 at Brocton, was 40 yards square and made from concrete. The part that remains has been excavated.
