Folder comprises a partial letter from an unidentified author to his sister. Written at the Waitahuna gold diggings in Otago, the letter describes the fortunes of the author at the gold mines in Victoria, Australia and Waitahuna.

Gold was discovered in the Waitahuna Gully in 1861. Waitahuna is 7 miles from Lawerence and 53 miles from Dunedin.

Provenance: The photocopy of this letter was donated by Mr M Valatin of Wiltshire. The original letter is owned by Mr M Lintern. Mr Lintern saved the record from destruction by bonfire. An unidentified old man of Winsley had been disposing of his archives in this manner when Mr Lintern intervened and salvaged it.
