- Description
A panoramic view of the plains north of Christchurch (with a small section missing). From left to right is a large stand of native bush (possibly Papanui Bush), 'Hills at Waipara' in the distance, 'Wood ... near Kaiapoi' also at some distance, sandhills, a Maori kainga with a rough palisade and two raupo whares titled Waiti... (word cropped), three further small stands of bush, the hills of Banks Peninsula, a further small stand of bush and the foothills of the Southern Alps. In the section showing the hills of Bank's Peninsula, a European man is standing, holding a flag or something similar on a tall pole.
Despite the title assigned to this panorama, Waipara is in the distance and the view is more likely to be taken from south of the Waimakariri River
