Lodge, Nevile Sidney, 1918-1989 :A number of sports bodies met in Wellington this week to consider raising funds by starting football pools in New Zealand. However the P.M. is not in favour, and opinion seems to be that the country is already adequately provided with facilities for gambling, so it looks as though "Catch the Kiwi" will become the country's biggiest annual sporting event. 1966.

Description

Shows sportsmen playing in three pools which are configured in the shapes of pounds and shillings and pence). The Prime Minister Keith Holyoake gives the thumbs down to a sportsman holding a sign reading "Pools?", while a gambler exits from the T.A.B. and sees advertisements for Golden Kiwi tickets. Finally a crowd of sportsmen chases desperately after a kiwi labelled "Golden Kiwi grant", indicating that sporting bodies will need to apply to the Lottery Grants Commission for funding.
