Maori war canoe with elaborately carved prow and stern, three standing figures, one seated and eighteen rowers.
Title trimmed off almost completely. The lower half of an engraving including as its top half "Head of Otegoowgoow" and "The head of a chief of New Zealand". The top half has been trimmed off in this case, but there are other examples of the full sheet at A-111-001. Derived from plate 18 in Parkinson's Journal, 'War canoe of New Zealand ... with Gable End Foreland... published 1773.
The original drawing on which this engraving is based is in the British Library. It was made during James Cook's first visit to New Zealand in 1769.
The left side of the top half of this engraving, similarly hand-coloured, appears to be the copy held at A-111-001-a, Head of Otegoowgoow
