Description

Detailed history of the family of Edith Lyttleton (G B Lancaster). It covers all branches including those on Edith's father's and mother's side and on the grandparents' sides and covers various geographical locations including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and France. It contains genealogical tables, photographs, maps and reproductions of paintings of and by Edith Lyttleton's parents and forbears.

James Garrett is the husband of Margaret, the niece of Edith Lyttleton, from whom her papers were acquired. These two volumes have been a labour of love by Mr Garrett, focusing more on the family history of the Lyttletons, but also covering the life of Edith Lyttleton.

Description: Contains chapters one to three of the Lyttleton family history. Chapter one is titled `France, Guiana, England, 1750-1810' and deals mainly with the de Gouges family, including Pierre Aubrey, Anne, Olyme and Pierre de Gouges. Chapter two is titled `England, Van Dieman's Land, 1810-1880' and deals with the family of William Wood who settled in Tasmania and early members of the Lyttleton family. Chapter three is titled `Van Dieman's Land, New Zealand, 1804-1880' and deals with the Hortle family in Australia, including Ann Hortle who became Mrs W T Lyttleton and the first members of the Lyttleton family who settled in New Zealand.
