Crimp, Daryl :All Blacks favourites ... T. A. B. faces huge payouts! Aw, come on fellas ... it's only supposed to be a game! [Friday Flash] June 28 [Between 1995 and 1998]

Date
1995 - 1999
Reference

Description

The cartoon shows three T. A. B. punters, their fingers crossed, standing alongside a roulette table marked All Blacks and Wallabies. A large pile of chips is on the All Blacks' side. They are watching a roulette wheel spin out of control, marked with a football. Opposite them, is a T. A. B. official, sweating profusely, holding a gun to his head, claiming that Rugby (and roulette by implication) are only games and not to be taken seriously. Refers to concern that the Totalisator Agency Board will be drained by the strong odds favouring the All Blacks against the Wallabies (Australian rugby team), and to the large amount of sports betting taking place.
