Shows brig with sails furled, flag at stern.
Originally thought to be the schooner Elizabeth, based on its similarity to the image of the Elizabeth in Heaphy's Wellington watercolour Thorndon flat April 1841 (C-025-010).
Probably drawn while Heaphy was resident in Auckland during the 1850s

Provenance: By descent from Heaphy's wife Catherine Churton to Marvin family of Australia.
Processing information: A researcher has identified this as brig, possibly the government brig, Victoria, because of the apparent white ensign on the stern September 2022. Title updated June 2024. Previous title: Heaphy, Charles 1820-1881 :[Schooner on calm water. 1850s?]
