Provenance: Alexander Horsburgh Turnbull's first bookplate. Commissioned in June 1891 from notable English Pre-Raphaelite artist Walter Crane by Alexander Turnbull during a stay in London for £10. The drawing was sent to Turnbull on 8 July, but had to be returned to the artist for correction, because the final word of the motto was misspelt 'audace'
