Description

Family photographs of the Hunter Brown family including a portrait of Charles Hunter Brown from 1839. Also included are two montages of Church of England clergy with handwritten keys to their names, an individual portrait of Bishop Sadlier, and a view of the station owned by Hunter Brown at Double Corner, Waipara.

Probably linked with album at PA1-o-362, compiled by Lucy Malanta Hunter Brown, in which the handwriting for all the captions is the same as the captions in these four albums.

Description: The Miscellaneous section contains photographs of the Hunter Brown family and friends at various gatherings including Christmas parties in 1909 and 1910, and New Year's Day in 1911; views of houses; outing to Tahuna Beach; driving in horse and carriage along the Moutere Road; haymaking at Riwaka; the Moutere River; and a scene from the New Zealand Tennis Championships in 1908 The Westland trip was taken in 1911, and includes scenes in Greymouth; the Buller Gorge; Lake Kanieri; Lake Mapourika; several views of the Franz Josef Glacier including some taken close-up near the snout and a section of the terminal face; Mount Rolleston; the railway viaduct at Rolleston Gorge; the Otira Gorge; the mouths of the Otira Tunnel under construction at both the Otira end and the Bealey end; construction works by the Waimakariri River; and coaches arriving at Cass. Description: Album of photographs relating to the Hunter Brown family, chiefly showing processes involved with starting an orchard in Tasman Bay area. Scenes range from breaking in the land in 1912, ploughing, first year apple trees and pear trees, second year apple trees and pear trees, 3rd year pear trees, and a complete panorama (in two parts) of the orchard taken `from the cottage' in 1917. One photograph shows a group of men with horses and carts collecting gravel for roading. Quantity: 1 album(s). One photograph shows sheds, mobs of sheep, men and dogs at Hawkswood Station, with the Conway River in the background A number of scenes show the planting of apple and pear seedlings at an orchard in Tasman Bay.
