Description

The diary contains entries covering two trips made by Laing to the Davis Straits area as a doctor on whaling ships. The first set of entries covers the period 24 Mar-10 Sep 1830 on board the `Zephyr' and the second set is from 11 Apr 1833? on board the `Volunteer'. The entries describe Laing's duties as a doctor and also note weather, position of the ship, sightings of other ships, whales caught and ship-board life.
