Description

Three scrapbooks created by Archibald Duncan, comprising printed photographs, newspaper extracts, charts and other printed material relating to Australia and the Pacific, Africa and the Americas. The material is dated between 1928 and 1951. A further three scrapbooks were donated in 2009. These were also created by Archibald Duncan and added to after his death by his children. They contain notes on his family and printed material relating to the Duncan and related families, including invitations, examination results, marriage notices, obituaries, etc. Also material relating to World War 1 & 2. Explanatory notes prepared by Gordon Duncan and Margaret Butler accompany these three scrapbooks.

Description: Scrapbook entitled `Archibald Duncan - Family and miscellaneous papers' appears to have been commenced by Archibald Duncan, and added to after his death in 1951 by his son Robert John Duncan. Commences with a 17 page family history of Robert McWilliam Duncan and his wife Jessie (nee Cruickshank) who arrived at Port Chalmers on the `Wellington' in 1878 with two children, and family history of Archibald Cruickshank and his wife Helen (nee Douglas). Helen arrived in NZ, a widow' on the `Marlborough' in 1880 with two of her children and lived with her daughter Jessie Duncan at Wyndham. Compiled by Robert and Harold Duncan in 1960s. Also extract from the Bible of Robert McWilliam Duncan; letters, cards and lists of those who sent wreaths on death of Mary Ann Duncan, 1957; papers relating to John Corr and members of the Corr family; papers re Archibald Duncan's estate; papers relating to Keith Douglas Duncan (1926-1945); letters from the Controller of Customs on occasion of Archibald's retirement in 1935; remedy for lumbago and rheumatism; papers relating to phrenology; certificates from Wyndham School; correspondence with the Public Trust Office and family members about the estates of Robert McWilliam Duncan and James Duncan.
