Description

A series of pictures arranged around an archway illustrating the activities of working people, with captions expressing support for trade union activities. The archway is surmounted by symbolic figures. Near the bottom are spaces for the name of the union and for other information, in this case used for the New Zealand Carpenters Union name and their membership certificate.

Compare the Library's large oil after Waudby, Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners Wellington Branch (G-830-3). The background image is identical and has been widely used by unions as a banner ever since its creation in England in 1867.
