Description

The papers consist of:

Application form submitted by George Stewart Brown; history of the Brown family and farm; genealogical material (including certificates); certificates of title and maps; photographs.

Original owner was John Thomas Brown who purchased 136 acres at Milford in the Arowhenua Survey District 10 km from Temuka which he named `Melrose' after their home in Scotland. In 2007 the farm was owned by his great-grandson George Stewart Brown and his wife Valerie.

In 2006 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family.
